GMSK (Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying) modulation is a widely-used digital modulation technique that employs Gaussian filtering combined with phase modulation to achieve efficient signal transmission and demodulation. In my graduation project, I successfully implemented the fundamental GMSK modulation functionality through comprehensive Simulink modeling and simulation. The implementation involved creating a Gaussian filter block to shape the input pulses, followed by a phase modulator that applies continuous phase shifts to the carrier signal. This approach enables superior spectral efficiency and enhanced interference resistance compared to conventional modulation schemes.
Through systematic modulation and demodulation testing, I demonstrated significant improvements in signal transmission efficiency and anti-interference performance. The project included thorough performance analysis using error rate calculations and spectral analysis tools to validate GMSK modulation's practical feasibility and effectiveness. This implementation deepened my understanding of GMSK modulation principles, applications in modern communication systems, and significantly enhanced my engineering capabilities and practical experience in digital signal processing and communication system design.
Key implementation aspects included configuring the Gaussian filter's bandwidth-time product (BT product) parameter, designing the phase continuity mechanism, and optimizing the modulator-demodulator chain for minimal bit error rate performance. The Simulink model incorporated baseband processing blocks, RF modulation components, and performance analysis modules to create a complete communication system simulation environment.
