Detailed Documentation
In this document, we will discuss the simulation of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) for switching power supplies using SIMULINK implementation. A switching power supply is a power converter that transforms electrical energy from one form to another. PWM regulates output voltage by controlling the pulse width of switching signals, while PFM achieves regulation by adjusting the pulse frequency. We will utilize SIMULINK software to model and analyze these techniques through block diagram implementations, including power electronics components like MOSFET switches, diodes, inductors, and capacitors. The simulation approach will involve configuring PWM generators with carrier wave comparison and duty cycle control, while PFM implementations will require variable frequency oscillators and feedback loop structures. This modeling helps better understand their operating principles, transient responses, efficiency characteristics, and comparative advantages through waveform analysis and performance metrics evaluation.
