In this paper, the main program for distance protection algorithm simulation employs a fault transient startup algorithm and a fault transient phase selection algorithm. These algorithms are designed to ensure rapid response to faults in power systems through real-time monitoring of current and voltage transient changes.
Specifically, the fault transient startup algorithm determines the activation timing of the protection algorithm by detecting sudden changes in electrical parameters, while the fault transient phase selection algorithm identifies the fault phase by analyzing symmetrical components or phase comparison methods. After determining the fault phase, the system proceeds with either impedance component calculation (using Z = V/I measurements) or distance measurement component calculation for precise fault localization.
Distance protection algorithms serve as critical components in power system protection schemes, enabling fast and accurate fault detection to safeguard power system security. Therefore, implementing these algorithms in the simulation main program is essential for validating protection coordination and ensuring secure, stable power system operation through comprehensive testing scenarios.
