This article presents a MATLAB-based higher harmonics detection module implemented through simulation using the ip-iq algorithm principle. The primary function of the harmonics detection module is to identify higher-order harmonics in power systems, which can potentially cause damage to electrical infrastructure. By employing the ip-iq algorithm implementation—which involves instantaneous power theory calculations through park transformations and filtering techniques—we achieve more accurate harmonic detection. The algorithm computes fundamental components by transforming three-phase quantities into stationary reference frames and subsequently into synchronous rotating frames. During the simulation process, we validate the module's effectiveness through MATLAB/Simulink models that incorporate signal processing blocks, FFT analysis, and harmonic extraction algorithms. Based on simulation results involving THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) analysis and waveform reconstruction, we propose improvements to enhance protection mechanisms for power systems, including adaptive filtering thresholds and real-time harmonic compensation strategies.
